The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a cell break in its divisional police station in the Okrika Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, gunmen stormed the division on Tuesday and forcefully opened the back door of the cell, from where all the detainees escaped.
The Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s PRO, Grace Iringe-Koko, directed Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Patrick Longe to expedite investigation into the cause of the cell break.
The CP also directed the DCP to ensure the detention of all officers who were on duty during in the incident.
Longe was charged to to ensure the rearrest of all escapees who should be made to face the full weight of the law.
